Human hair growth is a dynamic process. Hair grows in a mosaic order. Its growth occurs in several phases. The growth phases of separate hairs are different. The phase of growth lasts for approximately 3 years, and 85-90% of hair is in this phase. During the phase of shift the growth slows down, it lasts for 1-2 weeks. The phase of resting lasts for approximately 3 months, 5-10% of hair is in this phase.

Normally there are about 100 000 hairs on the scalp. During one day there fall out approximately 100-150 hairs. Normal ratio of hairs in the phase of growth to the hairs in the phase of resting is 9:1.

Is the loss of hair always a disease?

It is impossible to answer this question not seeing the person. The beauty and health of the hair depends not only on the heredity but also on the state of the organism as a whole. Different changes in gastrointestinal tract, endocrine and nervous system functioning, environmental factors (insolation or long-term impact of low temperature) influence head skin functioning, affecting, therefore, the hair growth.
